33-Pull Ringless Cap TE

Project vol.8 Seasoning caps designed for more comfort Product Development Department Taiki Okazaki

Seasonings are an essential part of cooking and mealtimes, and there are so many different types. Therefore, it is important for seasoning caps to facilitate pouring according to the characteristics of the contents and the situations in which they are used, such as viscosity and the size of ingredients. In addition, there are a wide range of other requirements, such as ease of opening, resistance to contamination of containers, and ease of separating caps from bottles after use for environmental friendliness. The Toyo Seikan Group proposed a total package to Kewpie for this product to solve such various problems and to enable users to use the dressing comfortably, and we developed the cap.

Various mechanisms to improve ease of use

Ease of opening

We have developed a mechanism that allows the cap to be opened simply by turning the cap in the opening direction, without the need to pull out the pull ring, thereby reducing the number of actions required to open the cap. The use of a triple-start thread has also been developed to make it easier to open.

Ease of pouring

We developed the bore diameter to match the viscosity of the contents and the size of the ingredients through trial and error with our customers. The shape of the spout has also been designed to prevent dripping and make it easier to pour the liquid to the right place.

Dirt resistance

We shake the container to shake the contents before opening the cap to pour the dressing. A resealing ring has been added to the inner surface of the cap to prevent the contents from sticking to the cap, reducing the risk of the contents dripping from the cap even when the container is opened after shaking.

Ease of sorting

We have developed a mechanism with excellent sortability that allows the inner plug to be easily pulled out of the bottle by tearing the outer circumference of the inner plug during sorting.

Project Review

Product Development Department
Taiki Okazaki
Since this product incorporated many functions that had not been available before, it was necessary to consider new evaluation methods. It was a valuable experience for us to establish new things one by one through repeated trial and error.

We believe that we were able to complete this product because we cooperated not only within the company but also with various people at our group companies throughout the entire development process, from proposal to customer, prototype development, and start-up of molds for production.

This product started with the Toyo Seikan Group’s proposal for a dressing container in response to Kewpie’s desire to renew its dressing container for its 100th anniversary year in 2019. As a member of the Sales Development Department at the time, I received this proposal from a group company, and thanks to the cooperation of various people, we were able to introduce this product to the market.

We were concerned with the finish of the slit that separates the top and bottom when the cap is opened. We had a hard time with the hard material, but we are satisfied with the finish, which is almost impossible to see or touch that it has been cut.
